A couple of weeks back I went on a mini book tour to launch the paperback of Between the Chalk and the Sea, taking in Canterbury, Lewes and Shaftesbury. At Canterbury Waterstones I was hosted by the legendary bookseller and author Martin Latham who played Ralph Vaughan-Williams’ The Lark Ascending as the audience gathered, and afterwards insisted on taking a photo of me sitting in the famous red armchair that has been in the shop window since the branch opened, apparently.
